Jets and Haason Reddick agree to adjusted deal, ending holdout saga

Date:

At long last, Haason Reddick’s holdout is over.

The veteran pass-rusher and the Jets have agreed to an adjusted contract, and he will report to the team on Monday. New York has agreed to waive more than $12 million in fines in exchange for Reddick honoring the remainder of their contract, per ESPN.

“Our goal is to continue to work toward a long-term extension with the Jets,” agent Drew Rosenhaus said in a statement to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Acquired by the Jets in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles on April 1, Reddick had made his desire for a new contract known before the trade was even agreed to, but there appeared to be an understanding that Reddick would need to contribute first before any contract talks would begin.

But Reddick failed to show up for mandatory minicamp camp in June, beginning what has been a very drawn-out saga between the Temple product and the Jets front office.

In mid-September, SNY reported that there had been some recent conversations between Jets general manager Joe Douglas and Reddick’s then-agent Tory Dandy, but nothing ultimately came from those discussions.

Reddick was dropped by his former agency, CAA, in early October, hiring Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha in mid-October.

“We look forward to working with the Jets to get this resolved as soon as possible,” Rosenhaus said in a statement after being hired. “Haason would like to be a New York Jet for years to come and our goal is to make that happen.”

A two-time Pro Bowler who finished fourth in Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2022, Reddick has been one of the NFL’s most consistent pass-rushers since the start of the 2020 season, racking up 50.5 sacks with 83 QB hits.

The Jets could certainly use a veteran presence like Reddick up front, particularly given the loss of Pro Bowler Jermaine Johnson, who tore his Achilles in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans and is out for the season.
