Inter Milan Coach Hails Importance Of Hard-Fought Serie A Win Vs Roma: ‘We Always Want To Win’

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels that his team “always want to win” after their Serie A victory over Roma.

The Nerazzurri coach reacted to the 1-0 victory in a press conference after the match, as reported by FCInterNews. He also addressed the possibility of an injury crisis.

Inter have made a winning return in Serie A.

The Nerazzurri managed to get a 1-0 victory away to Roma in their first match back from the international break.

It was certainly not an easy match. Inter had to do without two key players early on, with Hakan Calhanoglu and Francesco Acerbi both coming off with injuries in the first half.

And from there on, it was a very physical contest against a Giallorossi team who pushed Inter.

There were quite a few scrappy fouls that broke up play and slowed the tempo down.

Both Roma keeper Mile Svilar, and his Inter counterpart Yann Sommer made quite a few good saves.

But in the end, it was Inter captain Lautaro Martinez who was decisive. He scored right around the hour mark to give his team all three points.

Inter Coach Inzaghi Reacts To Roma Win: “We Always Want To Win”

Inter coach Inzaghi called this evening’s victory “Very important, against worthy opposition, and with some problems.”

“After 28 minutes, I had already used two slots for substitutions,” the Nerazzurri coach noted.

“But the guys did very well.”

“In the last three days I said that we need to get back to winning ways away from home,” Inzaghi said.

“Last season we did things that we’ve been missing this time around.”

The Inter coach noted that “This is the fourth win in a row.”

“I congratulated the guys. We should have scored a second goal as well, but Svilar did very well on Dumfries, and on Thuram’s shot before that.”

As far as whether this evening’s result was Inter sending a message in the Serie A title race, Inzaghi said that “Time will tell.”

“I see the team working hard, and they’re doing so very seriously.”

“These are guys who have already won trophies,” Inzaghi said. “And they always want to win.”

“There are other teams who have invested a lot in improving,” the Inter coach noted. “They’ve strengthened, and they want to win, like Inter.”

“We’ll try and work to win,” Inzaghi said.

Against Roma, Inzaghi said that “they brought on some quality players,” in the second half.

“Then we dropped a bit deeper defensively.”

“Correa gave us a hand defensively on Dimarco’s side,” the Inter coach noted. “Because I wasn’t sure whether to bring on Carlos Augusto who was feeling a bit of soreness.”

“He was available,” Inzaghi said of the Brazilian. “But I’d already lost two players to injury, and in 48 hours we’ll be back on the pitch.”

“Dimarco and Bastoni had both given a lot. But I preferred to keep Fede on.”

Inzaghi Worried About Potential Midfield Injury Crisis

The Inter coach also addressed the prospect of a brewing injury crisis in midfield.

Piotr Zielinski and Kristjan Asllani were already absent through injury today. And then Calhanoglu had to come off very early into the match.

Inzaghi admitted that he is “definitely” worried.

“Zielinski and Asllani both worked a bit on the training ground in Appiano today,” the Inter coach said.

“Zielinski is carrying a problem that he picked up with the national team. Asllani took a knock, and they’ll both need to be evaluated.”

“We hope to take them both with us to Bern,” Inzaghi updated ahead of Inter’s Champions League clash with Young Boys on Wednesday. “But there are no certainties.”

Inzaghi also said that “Calhanoglu hasn’t been at his best.”

“If Asllani were available, I would have made different choices,” the Inter coach admitted.

“Yesterday he felt some stiffness in his adductor. So it could be fatigue.”

“Today Acerbi felt some stiffness in his flexor. He said that he thinks he caught it in time, but it will be necessary to diagnose.”
