A spirited Chelsea side were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
The Blues fought valiantly throughout the top four clash, with Nicolas Jackson levelling the scores early in the second half after a Mohamed Salah penalty had given the home side a first half lead.
Soon after equalising however, Chelsea would concede what proved to be the deciding goal of the game as Curtis Jones prodded home the winner in the 52nd minute.
Here’s Chelsea’s best and worst-performing players in the narrow defeat, according to 90min’s player ratings.
Chelsea’s best player vs Liverpool
Nicolas Jackson: 7/10
When one considers Nicolas Jackson’s superb form at the start of the 2024/26 campaign, it’s fair to say that missing out on the signing of Victor Osimhen late in the summer transfer window was a bit of blessing in disguise for Chelsea.
Jackson netted his fifth goal – and eighth goal contribution overall – in just eight Premier League appearances at Anfield on Sunday. The Senegal international showed off his pace and awareness by making a timely run to burst through the Liverpool defence, before showing off his new-found composure and clinical nature by firing past Caoimhin Kelleher early in the second half.
Honourable mention
Moises Caicedo: 7/10
The man who set up Jackson’s goal with a defence-splitting pass, Moises Caicedo also continued his fine early season form at Anfield over the weekend.
Caicedo battled extremely hard throughout the game in the middle of the park, winning 100% of his attempted tackles and winning back possession four times for his team. He did all he could.
Chelsea’s worst player vs Liverpool
Cole Palmer: 5/10
So often Chelsea’s best player in games, Cole Palmer surprisingly struggled to make an impact at Anfield.
That is largely thanks to the brilliance of his opposite number Curtis Jones, who seemed one step ahead of him throughout the game.
Simply put, he wasn’t at his brilliant best.
