Real Madrid Tracks Barcelona, PSG Summer Target for Potential Move

Over the summer, Athletic Club’s Nico Williams was at the center of numerous transfer rumors, drawing interest from top clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain.

After a stellar 2023-24 season, where he made 37 appearances for Athletic Club across all competitions and helped them secure the 2024 Copa del Rey, Williams also played a key role in Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 victory in Germany.

Despite the attention, the UEFA Euro 2024 winner remained with his Spanish club. However, Cadena COPE (h/t Fichajes) reports that there’s another top European club keen on the winger who will be a hot commodity next summer.

From the program Tiempo de Juego on Cadena COPE, director Paco González pointed out that Real Madrid are closely monitoring Williams. Nonetheless, his potential arrival at the Santiago Bernabéu would depend on specific movements within the current squad.

Specifically, González mentioned that for the young Spanish international to have a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s team, the club would need to part ways with either Vinícius Júnior or Rodrygo, something that does not seem likely for now.

However, it cannot be ruled out that Real Madrid could make a move to acquire one of the most promising players in Spanish football in the near future. For now, the club is focused on strengthening other areas of the team, particularly the defense, but the admiration for Nico at Valdebebas is evident.
