Former Ole Miss Women’s Basketball player earns WNBA title

Date:

NEW YORK (WMC) – Marquesha Davis, an Arkansas native and former Ole Miss Women’s Basketball player who now plays for the New York Liberty, was named a WNBA Champion in her rookie year.

In game five of the WNBA Finals ‘24, the Liberty pulled a 67-62 overtime victory over the Minnesota Lynx in New York.

Davis is only the second Rebel player in program history to win the championship, following Yolanda Moore’s two WNBA titles in 1997 and 1998.

Davis, Ole Miss’ fifth first-round WNBA Draft choice and the second under head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin, played in five Liberty games.

Along with Davis and Moore, two former Ole Miss head coaches had success coaching in the league: Van Chancellor won four WNBA championships and Lin Dunn won the 2012 championship.
