Scotland Women’s captain Kathryn Bryce has signed on for the Hobart Hurricanes for this season’s Women’s Big Bash League.
Following a debut Women’s T20 World Cup stint for the Scots in UAE, Bryce joins tournament competitors Chloe Tryon and Danni Wyatt-Hodge, with the latter to be replaced by World Cup winner Suzie Bates.
Unlike Wyatt-Hodge, Tryon, Bates and fellow overseas player Lizelle Lee, Bryce signs as an Associate Rookie, meaning the 26-year-old can play as a fourth overseas player in the XI, or replace either an international player or an injured domestic squad member.
“I am so excited to be heading to Australia to play for the Hurricanes in the WBBL,” Bryce said in the Hurricanes’ announcement.
“The last 12 months have been such a terrific experience for me playing some of my best cricket and I am really keen to extend that form into such a wonderful tournament like the WBBL.”
“I am grateful to everyone at my domestic team in the UK and to Cricket Scotland for their continued support in my development.”
Bryce is no stranger to elite domestic T20 cricket, having featured for both the Manchester Originals and the Trent Rockets in the Women’s Hundred and for the Gujarat Giants in India’s Women’s Premier League.
Bryce is also no stranger to Australia, having spent time in Adelaide, Melbourne and Hobart in visits going back to 2015.
The 26-year-old was an Associate Rookie in WBBL2 and WBBL3 for the Melbourne Stars and Adelaide Strikers respectively, though is yet to feature in the competition, and comes back to Hobart after a strong season with New Town last summer.
Bryce was one of two Associate WBBL announcements on Tuesday, with Ni Made Putri Suwandewi signing for the Perth Scorchers.
