Georgia basketball added another sizable piece for the future with a commitment from a 2025 in-state prospect on Tuesday.

Jackson McVey, a 7-foot-1, 233-pound power forward/center from Elijay, announced he picked the Bulldogs over Georgia Tech, Stanford, Florida and Florida State in an announcement ceremony. McVey is playing his senior season at Overtime Elite in Atlanta.

McVey, a three-star rated prospect, averaged 26.2 points, 15.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game while shooting 65.3 percent from the field for Gilmer High in Elijay, according to the Times Courier.

McVey is the third 2025 commitment for Georgia, joining small forward Jacob Wilkins from Grayson and center Kareem Stagg from IMG Academy.

“I feel for a while I was overlooked as a recruit,” McVey said during his announcement ceremony that was livestreamed by Overtime Elite. “I kind of just kept my head down and kept working and put the time in and kind of gave myself the opportunities I have today.”

Patrick McVey, Jackson’s father, spoke to the Times Courier about the decision not to stay at Gilmer High in Elijay and instead transfer to Overtime Elite.

“They are providing that level of preparedness for Jackson to be able to play day one at the high-major college level. He said. “We felt like if he stayed with the same routine he has here, he wasn’t getting pushed enough. We’re afraid he would be a redshirt if he decided to go to a high-major college. He probably could have played at a mid-major day one, but his goal is to go as high as he can go.”

McVey is the No. 45 ranked center by the 247Sports Composite and the nation’s No. 245 overall prospect.
