Mounds View won all four singles matches in its Class 2A team state quarterfinal match Tuesday at Baseline Tennis Center en route to a 6-1 victory over Bemidji.
The third-seeded Mustangs will battle second-seeded Edina in the semifinals at 10 a.m. Wednesday back on the U campus. Defending champion Rochester Mayo — the No. 1 seed — will meet fourth-seeded Maple Grove in the other semifinal, with the title match set for 4 p.m.
Mounds View was led by its top two singles players. Junior Rory Wahlstrand won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while freshman Reese Wahlstrand won by the same margin at No. 2 singles. Avery Schifsky and Sonam Bhaskar completed the singles sweep for the Mustangs, who were the consolation champions a year ago.
Bemidji’s lone win came at No. 1 doubles.
-Edina swept the singles matches in its 6-1 victory over unseeded East Ridge. The Raptors’ point came at No. 2 doubles, where seniors Hannah Sandberg and Emily Tracy won by a 6-3, 6-2 tally.
CLASS A
The top four seeds also advanced in Class A. The closest match of the day came in the No. 4-5 quarterfinal, in which Pine City edged fifth-seeded St. James by a 4-3 final.
Defending champion Blake, the top seed, will meet Pine City in Wednesday morning’s semifinals, while second-seeded Crookston will face third-seeded Litchfield
