Beavers impress in singles, beat Wisconsin-River Falls

Oct. 22—SPRING LAKE PARK — The Bemidji State women’s tennis team secured a 5-2 road win over Wisconsin-River Falls Sunday afternoon thanks to a great showing in the singles matches.

The Falcons opened with a 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. Sophie Groen and Lauren Rutten earned BSU’s sole doubles win at No. 1.

However, the Beavers dominated in singles, winning five of the six matches to find the win.

Groen led the way in No. 1 singles, topping Sydney Wiener in two sets with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Valesca Rodriguez, Ana LucÍa Ibáñez and Julia Lindseth notched two-set wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively.

Lauren Rutten won No. 4 singles in three sets.
