Giants’ John Mara ‘committed’ to Brian Daboll, Joe Schoen this season and potentially longer

Date:

The third season under Giants head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen has not gone to plan, but the owner is committed to sticking with his hires.

Speaking to the media at a viewing of “The Duke: Wellington Mara’s Giant” in New York City, Giants owner John Mara talked about this year’s team and, in particular, Daboll and Schoen.

“Obviously we’re all very disappointed with where we are right now,” Mara said. “But I’m gonna say one thing: we are not making any changes this season. And I do not anticipate making any changes in the offseason, either.”

Mara said he still has confidence in both Daboll and Schoen and has not been patient enough in recent years with his head coach and front office officials.

“That’s one of the reasons I’m committed to Joe and Brian Daboll and giving them a chance to turn this around,” he said.

The Giants are currently 2-5 and will face the Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2) on Monday Night Football.

Of course, a lot can happen in the next 11 weeks, but Mara is giving his front office a vote of confidence in what could be another sub-.500 season.

Daboll and Schoen were hired by Mara prior to the 2022-23 season from the Buffalo Bills organization. The combo led the Giants to a surprising 9-7-1 record and a Wild Card berth that year. They even took down the NFC North Champion Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card round before being ousted by the Philadelphia Eagles.

The job Daboll did in his first season earned him Coach of the Year honors, but things would take a 180 in year two.

New York would play to a 6-11 record thanks to a stunted offense and injuries to quarterback Daniel Jones.

While Mara spoke confidently about Daboll and Schoen’s job security, he would not discuss Jones or any other player on the roster.
