India Vs New Zealand 2nd Test LIVE Score: NZ 63/1 after 19.5 overs

Date:

India Vs New Zealand 2nd Test LIVE Score: After suffering a record-shattering defeat at the hands of the visitors in Bengaluru, Rohit Sharma-led India will be hoping to make a comeback in a do-or-die encounter at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune today.

With both Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant fit for selection, captain Rohit Sharma faces a tough decision. The big question is whether last game’s hero, Sarfaraz Khan, will have to warm the bench to make room for Gill, or if the out-of-form KL Rahul will finally be dropped.

Meanwhile, New Zealand has been dealt a blow as skipper Kane Williamson has not been declared fit for the second Test, meaning Tom Latham will continue to lead the side in Pune. However, with stand-in skipper Latham leading the Kiwis to a historic victory over India after 36 years in the last game, there should not be much cause for concern in the New Zealand camp.

India Squad: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant(w), Sarfaraz Khan, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah

New Zealand Squad: Tom Latham(c), Devon Conway, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell(w), Glenn Phillips, Tim Southee, Mitchell Santner, Ajaz Patel, William ORourke

India vs New Zealand Live Score: ‘Pressure building on KL Rahul’, says Aakash Chopra

India vs New Zealand Live Score: Speaking ahead of the 2nd Test in Pune, Aakash Chopra said, “I am not privy to any inside information but it seems that he will be playing the second Test match. But then of course the pressure is building because one is his own form and I am not just thinking about one Test match here or there, because that will be just unfair to start judging people and then start picking or dropping people based on their single performance.”

“He hasn’t really been in very good form over the last 8-10 Tests (majority of which he missed due to injury), that’s also a fact. So time is running out. Sarfaraz has already scored 150 in the last game so that pressure is also there. So this game is an important one for him and team has also thought of it.” the former Indian cricketer added

India vs New Zealand Live Score: ‘It’s about trying to adapt on the run’; Latham on challenge in 2nd Test in Pune

India vs New Zealand Live Score: Speaking ahead of the 2nd Test in Pune, Tom Latham said (as quoted by ESPNCricinfo), “I guess whatever we’re presented with, it’s about, for us, trying to adapt as quick as we can; that’s something that we can’t control with the wicket. So it’s about trying to go out there and adapt as quick as we can, and if it’s going to be a wicket that turns a little bit more, then we’ve obviously got four spinners in our line-up, so fingers crossed that will play into their hands, but yeah, as I said, it’s about trying to adapt on the run, and try not to go into the game with too many preconceived ideas,”

“Yeah, obviously very special, I guess to be… there’s myself, Graham Dowling and John Wright, to be in this position is really special. But for me it was a team effort, it wasn’t just me that obviously contributed to the win, you know, the guys did a fantastic job, and obviously that was last week, we obviously celebrated what was a special performance. But our attention turned quickly to this game, and we’re trying not to, I guess, rest on what happened last week, as trying to take the confidence from last week, and take that into this game, and hopefully hit the ground running,” the Kiwi skipper added

India vs New Zealand Live Score: Social media does not pick players, says Gautam Gambhir

India vs New Zealand Live Score: Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Gambhir said, “First of all, social media does not matter one bit. You do not pick players because of the social media or what the experts think. What the team management thinks, what the leadership group thinks, is very very important. Ultimately, everyone is judged, international cricket is about being judged. Everyone’s performance will be judged eventually,”

“But I feel he is batting really well, he has had a decent knock in Kanpur, obviously on a difficult wicket and he played according to the plans. He would be knowing that he wants to score big runs, he has that capability of scoring these big runs that is why he is being backed by the team management,” the Indian head coach added

India vs New Zealand Live Score: Sarfaraz Khan will be part of Border Gavaskar Trophy, says Aakash Chopra

India vs New Zealand Live Score: Speaking ahead of the 2nd Test match in Pune, Chopra said, “In the squad, yes, in the playing XI, we don’t know yet. You will need to carry enough, and it might be a larger squad anyways, it is a five-Test match series. First time in Australia, we are going to play five matches,” he said.

“Sarfaraz, whenever he has played, it is just not about the last Test match, what he did against England was also commendable, so there is no reason for us to even speculate that he won’t be part of the touring squad, I think it is a given he will be there,” the former Indian cricketer added

India vs New Zealand Live Score: KL Rahul in great space, says India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate

India vs New Zealand Live Score: Speaking ahead of the match in Pune, Ryan ten Doeschate said, “There is a fight for the spot (between Gill, KL and Sarfaraz). Sarfaraz was brilliant in the last game. I went to KL after the last game and asked how many balls you missed and he had not missed any. He is in good space but we will have to fit in seven players in six spots. So there is competition. There are no concerns about KL’s form, he is batting well,”
