Penguins To Honor Legendary Goaltender In Final Pittsburgh Stop Of His Career

Date:

For the final time in his 21-year National Hockey League Career, Minnesota Wild goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury will will be gearing up for a hockey game in the city of Pittsburgh.

And it wouldn’t feel right if the Penguins organization – and the city – failed to make the most of it.

Fleury, now 39, was selected first overall by the Penguins in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and spent his first 13 seasons with the franchise, winning three Stanley Cups. He ranks first in franchise history in games played (691), wins (375), and goals-against average (2.58) among Penguins’ goaltenders with at least 100 games played.

So, to honor “Flower” – who also won a Vezina Trophy with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2020-21 – the Penguins, in partnership with their PensGear store, are selling exclusive merchandise for what is presumed to be Fleury’s final game in Pittsburgh:

Last season, Penguins’ players gifted Fleury a special painting featuring art depicting all the seasons he spent in Pittsburgh:

It remains to be seen what else will be in store for Fleury when he returns to Pittsburgh, including whether or not he’ll be in the lineup. He has only started one game this season, which was a 4-3 overtime loss to the Seattle Kraken.

Regardless, fans and former teammates should prepare for a night to remember – and teammates should probably also prepare for a trademark Fleury prank.
