Over the past couple of weeks, reports have surfaced suggesting that FC Barcelona hold a strong interest in signing Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies in 2025.
The 23-year-old Canadian international is set to become a free agent at the end of the season and has piqued the interest of the Blaugrana while Real Madrid are also long-term admirers of the player.
Recently, though, there has been talk of interest from the Premier League, with Manchester United believed to be keen.
Manchester United lodge enquiry
Building on that, Florian Plettenberg reports that Manchester United do hold a very concrete interest in acquiring the services of Alphonso Davies this summer.
Indeed, the Red Devils are understood to have been gathering extensive information on the Barcelona and Real Madrid target in recent days as they see him as the perfect solution for their problems in the left-back department.
Furthermore, the report adds that Erik ten Hag’s side have already made an informal enquiry about Davies’ situation with his entourage, suggesting that their interest is becoming more and more concrete.
Barcelona counting on Flick
Barcelona, for their part, are relying on Davies’ connection with their manager, Hansi Flick, to beat their competitors for his acquisition in the summer.
After all, it was under the German tactician that the 23-year-old first flourished at Bayern Munich and the bond that they share was visible after Barça’s win over the Bavarians in the UEFA Champions League earlier this week.
Davies, for his part, is said to be demanding a signing bonus of €15 million, along with a net annual salary of €10 million on a minimum four-year deal.
Whether Barcelona would be willing to match those terms remains to be seen.
