Milan made arrangements and bookings with four different luxury hotels in four different cities before the Lega Serie A announced the decision to postpone their away game against Bologna that had originally been scheduled to take place on Saturday, according to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Serie A fixture between Bologna and Milan has been officially postponed after extreme weather warnings in the Emilia-Romagna region. The next available date for the rearranged fixture to be carried out is currently in January 2025.
Milan made arrangements in four different cities before Bologna postponement
According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Rossoneri staff had anticipated a decision to play the game at a neutral venue, possibly behind closed doors.
As Milan were the away team, they would have stayed in Bologna the night before the game had it gone ahead as usual.
Milan’s stay in Bologna had been books in long before the decision to postpone the match. However, as there were supposedly possibilities that the game could have been played in Como, or even Verona or Empoli, Milan reportedly made arrangements in those cities as well, in case they had to re-route at short notice.
On top of their accommodation plans, Milan’s logistics team had to plan possible travel arrangements to each of the cities. Some routes were more straight-forwards than others, but others, including the Empoli hypothesis, would have been extremely difficult given the lack of direct train connections.
Additionally, the Rossoneri faced logistical difficulties with some members of staff, including chefs and kitmen, who typically travel to away games before the team set off.
In the end, all of the potential plans had to be scrapped as Milan and Bologna now await the date for the re-arranged fixture, which will likely take place next calendar year.
