Body is found in Scott County outside a wrecked vehicle thought to be tied to Lexington robbery

Date:

A body was found alongside a road in southern Scott County Friday, outside a wrecked vehicle that officials say was tied to a robbery in Lexington.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to Lisle Road Friday morning because of “a vehicle off the roadway that appeared to be involved in a collision.”

When they arrived, deputies found “a deceased male outside the vehicle.“

The sheriff’s office said later said they think the scene is “related to the overnight robbery complaint in Fayette County.”

The Lexington Police Department said officers were called to Kearney Ridge Boulevard at 1:39 a.m. Friday for a report of a vehicle that was stolen in a robbery involving a gun. The victim said they were driving on Georgetown Road when the robbery occurred.

Lexington police said they could not confirm that the vehicle found in Scott County was connected to the robbery, and no further details were released.

Scott County Coroner Mark Sutton said the body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort for an autopsy.

Sutton said he could not provide an identity for the person who died or a cause of death late Friday afternoon, as it is “still an active investigation.”
