Want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play: MS Dhoni

Date:

The 43-year-old has dropped a massive hint about his cricketing future ahead of the IPL 2025 auction

MS Dhoni is yet to confirm his availability for the Indian Premier League 2025, but the 43-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has dropped a massive hint about his cricketing future.

The former Chennai Super Kings captain said he wants to enjoy  “the last few years of cricket”, hinting he could feature in the next edition of the IPL.

Speaking at a promotional event for Rigi, Dhoni said: “I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play. In our childhood, we used to go out to play at 4 pm and enjoy the game. But when you play professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy cricket, just like a game. That’s what I want to do.”

With a rule that was scrapped in 2021 and brought back again this year, just to allow all those retired in or before 2019 to be picked as uncapped players, Dhoni not being retained by CSK will be a bit shocking. As an uncapped player, the Chennai-based franchise can retain the 43-year-old for INR 4 crore.

Dhoni was pretty impressive in the last season of the IPL, mostly batting in the last few overs. The right-hander slammed 161 runs at an average of 53.66 and a strike rate of 220.54. He smashed 14 fours and 13 maximums.

Talking about his fitness regimen, Dhoni said: “I have to keep myself fit for nine months so that I can play two and a half months of IPL. You need to plan it out, but at the same time, you know, chill a bit.”
