Scranton Prep reached its second straight PIAA Class 2A girls tennis final with a 3-0 win over Quaker Valley on Saturday morning at the Hershey Racquet Club.
The Classics (20-2) will defend their state title at 4 p.m. against 1-1 Lower Moreland (19-2) in a rematch of last year’s state final. Lower Moreland defeated North Catholic, 4-1, in the semifinals.
Last season, Scranton Prep defeated Lower Moreland, 3-1, when it swept the singles matches in the championship final.
Scranton Prep’s doubles teams swept their matches and Emma Cuck won at No. 3 singles to secure the victory. Lily Lengyel and Alyssa Wigley had their matches halted once the Classics secured the sweep.
Seniors, Ella Cohen and teammate Grace Devine defeated Livia Jobbins and Jane Lenhard, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles. It was the team’s second win in the state team playoffs this season.
Hannah LaCoe and Nicole Krakovich defeated Parker Barnes and Hannah Stein 7-5, 6-3. This was their second win of this year’s state tournament.
Cuck defeated Jay Olawalye, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3 singles. Cuck improved her career singles record to 58-0 and she is 9-0 in the state tournament in the last three seasons.
This year’s final is a rematch with a slight change at the top of the Scranton Prep starting lineup.
The Classics won the state title when Wigley defeated Hannah Kideckel, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Lily Lengyel beat Rebecca Kideckel, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2. Cuck beat Abigail Yanovitsky, 6-1, 6-2.
Lengyel moved up to No. 1 singles for Scranton Prep and will play Hannah Kideckel and Wigley will play Rebecca Kideckel in the final. Cuck will face Yanovitsky.
Scranton Prep is 8-1 in the state team tournament in the last three seasons. The Classics will try to make it three straight seasons that a team from District 2 has won the team title in Class 2A. Wyoming Seminary won the championship in 2022.
