Barcelona 20-year-old loanee coy on future – ‘I just go year-by-year’

Barcelona youngster Alex Valle secured a loan move to Scottish giants Celtic in the summer transfer window and is making a positive impression at Parkhead.

The left-back opted to leave Barça even though manager Hansi Flick wanted to retain him, so that he could play regularly and continue his development.

Celtic, for their part, were eager to include a permanent purchase option in the loan agreement for Valle, but the 20-year-old starlet rejected that as well.

However, with the youngster impressing in Scotland, Brendan Rodgers’ side could consider making his transfer permanent at the end of the season.

Amidst this, Valle has spoken out on the topic of his future, insisting that he is only focused on enjoying the season and that he is not thinking too far ahead at this point.

“At the moment, I’m just looking forward to this season, I just go year-by-year. I don’t know what will happen in the future,” said the La Masia graduate, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“But I’m enjoying it here. I love this city, it’s been great for me so far. First of all, I want to learn as much as I can here.”

So far in his stint in Scotland, Valle has featured six times across all competitions, even chipping in with a couple of assists.

Expressing his pleasure at how things are going for him at Celtic, the 20-year-old Barcelona loanee remarked:

“This move has been great for me so far. I have full confidence in myself, my teammates, the staff – everyone at the club.

“I’ve been settling in the city and at the club but it takes time, especially because of the style and the way we play. With confidence and getting minutes, I’ve been improving every week. But I still think I can do more and go even further.”

Valle signed a new contract at Barcelona until 2026 before leaving on loan for Celtic. Only time will tell if he has a future at the Catalan club or whether the Scottish outfit sign him on a permanent transfer.
