How to watch and what to expect: Indiana men’s basketball exhibition game at Tennessee

Date:

I expect the probable starters—Myles Rice, Kanaan Carlyle, Mackenzie Mgbako, Malik Reneau, and Oumar Ballo—to play the bulk of the minutes. Rice against Zeigler should be a fun matchup as two high-level point guards battle. Reneau had success scoring on Okpara in the paint in the past, so it will be interesting to see how Indiana plays Reneau and Ballo in this one.

The two things I’m watching are offensive pace and shot selection. Will the Hoosiers consistently race the ball across halfcourt? Woodson has not had his teams do that so far at Indiana, plus Tennessee will pressure the ball to slow that down. Then, the question of the offseason: Will Indiana emphasize taking more three-point shots? With the transfer additions, Indiana’s three-point attempt percentage should go up, but by how much?

Fans should not analyze rotations or lineups much. Most coaches have been throwing out random lineups in the charity exhibition games, and the rotation is already skewed if Galloway does not play.

At the end of the day, it should be a great experience for the Hoosiers in front of a hostile crowd in a game that does not count.
