Giants bench CB Deonte Banks during second half of Monday’s game against Steelers

Date:

Giants cornerback Deonte Banks has had an extremely poor start to his sophomore season and things finally reached the boiling point during Monday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Head coach Brian Daboll was said to have been getting into the former first-round pick “pretty strongly” after he was hurdled by running back Najee Harris during a second quarter carry.

Banks was quickly replaced by Greg Stroman, who was elevated from the practice squad for this contest, for the remainder of that drive and the rest of the first half.

The youngster also remained on the sideline with the rest of the reserve defensive backs as Big Blue’s defense took the field for their opening drive of the third quarter, and no injury designation was given, signaling a likely benching.

Banks has already been called out twice this season for his lack of effort, with the latest example coming during last week’s loss to the Eagles.
