Erik ten Hag receives Pep Guardiola message after Manchester United sacking

Manchester United’s now-former manager Erik ten Hag has received a personal message from Pep Guardiola in light of his Old Trafford sacking this week.

After just over two seasons in charge of Manchester United, the Old Trafford hierarchy took to decision to dismiss of their Dutch coach after a 2-1 defeat to West Ham, and overall underwhelming start to the new season.

The common consensus within the club is that there was little to no progress being made under Ten Hag, despite issuing the former Ajax tactician with a new and improved contract over the summer months.

Ten Hag’s departure means that Manchester United are once again on the search for a new manager in the Old Trafford dugout, leaving Pep Guardiola awaiting for a new challenger in the upcoming Manchester derby double which is still to come this season.

Issuing a reaction to Ten Hag’s exit from his position as Manchester United manager, which was confirmed by the Old Trafford club on Monday morning, Pep Guardiola told reporters 24 hours later, “Always I feel sorry for the managers when they lose their position.

“So I’m so sorry for him. I have a good, incredible relationship, I think he represents Man United in the highest level in terms of behaviour.”

Guardiola continued, “Of course, our job, the managers is one of the few jobs in all the jobs in the world that the people expects to be sacked. The people is expecting that you don’t have jobs.

“So I don’t see architects or doctors or teachers or anything, that the people desire you to get out! It’s only us! It’s our job, we have to accept it.”

In his final words to the Dutch coach following his exit from Premier League football, Guardiola said, “I wish him all the best, he and his family, and of course, he’s going to come back stronger, and he knows, I know, everybody knows that our job depends on the results.

“And when the results are not good enough, always we are on the verge of staying or being sacked. I’m saying that that even myself, I’m not an exception. If the results are not good, there isn’t anything that can sustain it.”

This is a developing story. More to follow.
