Berghuis a ‘possibility’ for Ajax against a Feyenoord side boosted by the return of Timber and Ueda

It has been revealed that Steven Berghuis may be part of Ajax’s team selection against his old club Feyenoord. The attacking midfielder, also adept on the wings, has been recovering from an injury for some time now and he may complete his recovery in time for Wednesday evening’s clash at De Kuip.

Berghuis has been sidelined at Ajax since early September. While he made an appearance in last Sunday’s match against Willem II, it was deemed too early. Ajax boss Francesco Farioli did not rule out that the Klassieker could be the stage of his comeback. In his Tuesday press conference, he commented:

“Berghuis will be assessed later, then we will make a decision. (A return against Feyenoord) is a possibility.”

Furthermore, Gaston Ávila, Sivert Manssverk and Kristian Hlynsson are not yet in the game against Feyenoord. Farioli did give a positive update about the Icelander. “He is on the way back, but needs to improve his condition”.

For Feyenoord, manager Brian Priske updated the media on the status of both Quinten Timber and Ayase Ueda.

Priske confirmed that both Timber and Ueda are fit and will be in the match selection tomorrow evening. Bart Nieuwkoop is also back in the game.

The Danish coach indicated that Feyenoord is ready, supported by the massive presence of pyro-wielding supporters at the final training this afternoon.

“It is fantastic to feel the support. We all know that this is a huge match, especially for the fans. We are ready, and have many players available”, the coach emphasized.

Today Feyenoord had 24 to 25 players on the training field. Priske presented as a positive figure, regarding the fitness of the group.

“It looks more and more positive. Ueda and Timber have done a good training and are available tomorrow. The same goes for Bart Nieuwkoop. Gimenez, Hartman and Stengs are still working on their rehabilitation, while Jordan Lotomba is also doing very well. That looks better and better, but he is not ready for tomorrow yet.”
