MSU Basketball tops Ferris State in exhibition finale

Michigan State basketball utilized a second-half run to pick up a convincing exhibition victory over Ferris State on Tuesday night.

Michigan State had to fight off an early second-half run from the Bulldogs to pick up the 85-67 victory. Michigan State finished the exhibition slate with a pair of double-digit victories over Division II foes.

The first half was tight for most of the frame, with Michigan State not being able to build a double-digit lead until the final five minutes. The Spartans lead by as many as 17 points in the opening half, but a late run by the Bulldogs cut the Spartans lead to 40-28 at the break.

Ferris State came out swinging in the second half, cutting further into the Spartans lead early into the frame. The Bulldogs got the deficit down to only five points. However, from there, Michigan State took over and never looked back to earn the exhibition victory.

Michigan State was led in scoring by newcomer transfer forward Frankie Fidler, who finished with 14 points. Behind him was Coen Carr with 12 points and Xavier Booker with 10 points.

Michigan State shot 43 percent from the field, including a 7-of-22 performance from three-point range. Michigan State dominated on the boards with a 13-rebound advantage over the Bulldogs.

Michigan State basketball will officially tip off the 2024-25 regular season next week on Monday against Monmouth. Tipoff from the Breslin Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and the game will again be available via streaming on Big Ten Plus.
