Arsenal returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Preston North End last night.
Gunners manager Mikel Arteta made eight changes for the Carabao Cup fourth round tie at Deepdale.
Ethan Nwaneri was one of those who got the nod. The 17-year-old delivered a stand-out display from the number 10 position.
The teenager bagged the second goal with a superb curling strike from the edge of the box.
The youngster also hit the woodwork with a similar effort while squandering a big chance.
Nwaneri ended the game with a passing accuracy of 98 percent with five attempts on goal.
Speaking after the 3-0 win, Arteta described Nwaneri as a ‘big talent‘ who has the right attitude.
In our opinion, the Spaniard must unleash him in the upcoming league trip to Newcastle United.
Arteta has resisted the temptation to start Nwaneri in the league despite Martin Odegaard’s injury absence.
However, it could be time to hand a full league debut to the youngster, who has shown maturity beyond his years.
Arteta has gone with Leandro Trossard in Odegaard’s absence, but the Belgian has been inconsistent with his displays.
The 29-year-old has the knack for making goal contributions, but he has been less effective when starting games.
Trossard is more menacing coming off the bench and we would personally start Nwaneri against the Magpies.
Arteta has nothing to lose with experimenting with the teenager. He could make a change if things don’t work out.
Meanwhile, Odegaard is not far from returning to action and he could infact make the squad for the trip to St James’ Park.
However, the captain may not make the starting XI. He could be eased back into competitive action after a long lay-off.
