Pat Cummins cops a cheeky swipe from wife Becky as cricket’s first couple and son Albie go trick or treating on Halloween

Date:

Pat Cummins’ wife Becky has given the cricket star a good-natured dressing down after he stepped out with her and son Albie for a spot of trick or treating on Halloween.

While the Test skipper’s wife went to the trouble of dressing up as Helen Parr from the hit kids’ movie The Incredibles and his son went as Tigger from Winnie the Pooh, he wore a very casual T-shirt, shorts, cap and sunnies.

Becky shared photos of the family with the caption, ‘Happy Halloween!!’ accompanied by Jack-o’-lantern and ghost emojis – and the hilarious hashtag ‘#daddymadeloadsofeffort’.

The cheeky swipe didn’t go unnoticed by her 90,000 followers.

‘Way to go Pat. I’m with you,’ one wrote.

‘Pat can dress up as Travis Head on Halloween and scare 1.45 billion,’ another commented, referring to Cummins’ teammate who played a starring role in the Aussie team’s World Cup win over India earlier this year.

‘Pat Cummins is dressed up as the nightmare of India,’ wrote a third, referring to the upcoming Test series between the two countries.

Becky also posted vision of Pat holding Albie over a box full of lollies as a huge crowd of kids gathered around to grab some, captioning the video, ‘The reason we ran out of treats so quickly.’

She features prominently in the cricketer’s new book Tested, which sees Pat interview 11 people – Becky included – who have inspired him by overcoming adversity and showing great leadership.

In it, the couple discuss the heartbreaking toll they suffered when his cricketing duties meant he wasn’t around for much of the first few weeks of Albie’s life.

‘We arrived home from the hospital on the day you left and I remember walking in on you sobbing on the floor while you were packing your bags,’ Becky tells Pat in the book.

‘All I could think was: “Why is he so emotional? We are going to be fine. It’s not a big deal.”

‘They say ignorance is bliss. When I look back, [looking after a newborn on my own for about a month] was the hardest thing I had ever done in my life at that point.

‘But I got through each day knowing I would be on a plane soon and reunited with you, so I clung onto that. That alone got me through some very lonely and tiring days and nights.

‘When I finally arrived in Brisbane in November for the start of the summer series, we had two blissful days together before you were made Test captain.

‘It was an amazing thing to happen, and so deserved, but also it felt like my world had just crumbled. I had no control over anything. This baby was supposed to be the most important thing in our life, and all I wanted was for us to be together to enjoy him.

‘It felt like that importance, and that time, was being torn away from me. Your new role was all anybody was talking about. It was all over the news. And every decision and every meeting relating to the captaincy seemed so pressing. I was so proud but also felt a bit hollow.’

Becky is pregnant with the couple’s second child, which is due in February.

They revealed the news on Instagram in August, writing: ‘Incredibly happy to finally share our [baby emoji] news!

‘We are so exited to meet you, baby, and to add a little more craziness to our lives.’

The post was accompanied by photos of Becky showing off her baby bump with Albie, who she is seen cradling while he places a hand on her belly in one image.

Cummins’ teammate Mitch Marsh was one of the first to congratulate the couple on the heartwarming announcement, as were cricket star Travis Head’s wife Jessica, Aaron Finch’s wife Amy, Usman Khawaja’s wife Rachel and Becky’s sister Kara.
