ASP Shehrbano Naqvi strong candidate as PCB’s head of women’s cricket after Tania Malik’s exit | The Express Tribune

Date:

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly considering former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi for a key position in Pakistan’s women’s cricket management, following the resignation of Tania Malik from her post.

According to media sources, Shehrbano, who is a police officer and is allocated in the Police Services of Pakistan, is regarded as a strong candidate for the role.

PCB is currently evaluating candidates to head the women’s cricket department, aiming to fill the vacancy created by Tania’s exit in October 2021.

Shehrbano gained prominence earlier this year when she intervened in a crowded market incident in Lahore’s Ichhra Bazaar, rescuing a woman from an attack.

The incident highlighted her dedication and earned her national recognition.

PCB’s chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, who served as interim Chief Minister of Punjab at the time, is reportedly considering her for the role, influenced by her active public service record during his tenure.

The leadership role in Pakistan women’s cricket became available after Tania, who had held the position since October 2021, announced her resignation.

The board is now actively searching for a replacement, and Shehrbano is seen as a prime candidate for the job.

Sohaib Sheikh and Tania Mallick step down from PCB roles

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had announced on wednesday that PSL Director Sohaib Sheikh and Tania Mallick, Head of Women’s Cricket, have resigned from their positions to explore new career paths.

Sohaib returned to the PCB 13 months ago after previously working with the organization from 2016 to 2019, while Tania began her role at Gaddafi Stadium in October 2021.

PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer:

“Sohaib Sheikh and Tania Mallick were key members of the PCB management team, making meaningful contributions to our progress as an organisation. Sohaib was part of the core team that launched the HBL PSL in 2016, successfully delivering four seasons, and he returned to produce another high-quality event earlier this year.

“Tania worked with dedication to uplift women’s cricket in Pakistan, making strides at the grassroots level to expand the pool of players. Alongside PCB’s ongoing support, her efforts were recognised internationally by the ICC, where she served as one of the two Full Member representatives on the ICC Women’s Committee.

“The PCB appreciates their hard work, dedication and contributions, and we wish both Sohaib and Tania every success in their future endeavors.”
