EDMONTON — Good things come to those who wait. Or at least those who have the best player in the world.
The Edmonton Oilers are a valuable franchise. Surely, that isn’t up for debate when Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, two of the best players in the world, are leading your team to a Stanley Cup Final.
Despite the team not going all the way and winning Lord Stanley, the Oilers saw one of the most significant increases in value over the past year.

Sportico has released its new NHL Valuations Ranking List, with the Oilers featuring high on the list.
Edmonton was ranked third among Canadian teams and seventh overall, climbing one position. Last year, the team was evaluated to be worth $1.59 billion. For 2024, that increased to $2.4 billion, representing a 51 percent increase.
That was the second-biggest jump in value across all 32 teams.
Every team is valued at over $1 billion.
8 teams over $2 billion.
3 Canadian teams are in the top 10.

The Utah Hockey Club saw the biggest increase in value. It is now valued at $1.2 billion after being worth $675 million in 2023. They experienced a 78 percent value increase.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are the highest-valued team for another year. They were joined by the New York Rangers as the only teams to have crossed the $3 billion threshold. The Maple Leafs are valued at $3.66 billion, with the Rangers worth $3.25 billion.
2024 saw big increases in value across the board. Twenty-six of 32 teams saw an increase in value of at least 30 percent. With a 19 percent rise in value, the Winnipeg Jets had the smallest increase from last season.
Last year, 22 of the 32 teams were valued at over $1 billion. This year, all 32 teams are worth at least $1 billion.
These numbers are very encouraging, especially for fans who pay close attention to the salary cap. With increases like this across the league, it’s not unfair to say that the cap could see some hefty increases in the near future.
