ANCHORAGE (Nov. 2) – Junior guard Elaina Mack scored a career-high 27 points and senior center Tori Hollingshead recorded a double-double, helping the Alaska Anchorage women’s basketball team roll to a 94-29 blowout of Simpson at the Alaska Airlines Center on Saturday.
The Seawolves (2-0) got 12 points, 10 rebounds and five steals from Hollingshead, along with 14 points and eight assists from senior point guard Emilia Long, as they outshot the visitors from Redding, Calif., .481 to .278 and forced 38 turnovers.
The Red Hawks (1-0) – an NAIA program that counted the game as an exhibition – were led by 11 points and five steals from guard Tessa Kinney.
One night after setting multiple school records in a 103-24 rout of the NAIA program, UAA started strong again with a 24-2 edge in the rematch, tying the program mark for fewest points allowed in the opening quarter.
The Seawolves led 46-10 at halftime and finished with a rebounding advantage of 47-22.
Mack shot 9 of 14 from the field and 7 of 10 from long range, coming two shy of the program record for threes in a game. It was the second straight career high for the King Cove native, who scored 20 points in Friday’s victory.
Five Seawolves scored double figures as junior forward Hedda Koehne accounted for 11 points (5-8 FG), six rebounds and three steals, and junior guard Kenzie Sirowich had 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-5 3FG), four rebounds, two steals and no turnovers.
