Three Coachella Valley high school girls’ golf teams saw their seasons end Monday in three different divisions of CIF-Southern Section postseason play.
Palm Desert High School, champions of the Desert Empire League, finished 14th in a 20-team Division 2 competition at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard. La Quinta High School finished fourth in the Division 3 competition at Bear Valley Country Club in Victorville, while Coachella Valley of the Desert Valley League finished 13th in Division 5 at Green River Golf Club in Corona.
Only 12 teams from the five divisions advance to the CIF-SS qualifying tournament for the Southern California Golf Association event that serves as a state qualifier. But 10 of those 12 teams advance from Division 1, meaning the three local teams won’t get one of the two remaining berths.
In Oxnard, Palm Desert was led by junior Sophia Waddell with a 78, followed by freshman Chelsea Weiss at 82. Senior Bella Fuentez shot 83, sophomore Mia Margolis shot 85, junior Amelia Candari shot 87 and sophomore Hannah Woods shot 88.
In the Division 3 tournament in Victorville, junior Joanna Bushnell Crist led the Blackhawks with a 77, while sophomore Hanna Bagnell shot 83. Senior Daisy Castro added a 97, junior Jayden Rodriguez shot 99, junior Lexia Rosales shot 109 and Sasha Gomez added a 112.
For Coachella Valley, junior Anahi Moran led the Arabs with a 97. Melanie Sanchez added a 111, followed by Kitzia Vargas at 114, Amayrani Molina-Bautisa shot 115, Sarah McNutt shot 122 and Evelyn Ochoa shot 136.
La Quinta’s Bagnell will play Thursday in the CIF-SS individual finals at Temecula Creek Golf Resort, having been the only desert golfer to qualify through preliminary play last month.
