Commanders acquire 4-time Pro Bowl CB Marshon Lattimore from Saints

Date:

The Washington Commanders are beefing up at the trade deadline. They acquired four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints, the Commanders announced on Tuesday after multiple media outlets reported the trade.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Commanders are getting Lattimore and a 2025 fifth-round pick, while the Saints are getting a 2025 third-round pick and a 2025 fourth-round pick as well as their 2025 sixth-round pick from the Hassan Ridgeway trade.

The Commanders are 7-2 and currently at the top of the NFC East. They need help in their secondary, and Lattimore will be a great fit once he’s healthy (he missed Week 9 with a hamstring issue). Drafted by the Saints with the 11th overall pick in 2017, the 28-year-old Lattimore has played his entire career with the Saints. Now he’ll go from a team with a seven-game losing streak to a divisional contender.

It makes sense that the Saints, now 2-7 after a 2-0 start, would trade away one of their longtime veterans, especially after firing their head coach Dennis Allen on Monday following a painful 23-22 loss to the Carolina Panthers in Week 9. There had been interest in Lattimore this week despite his hamstring injury, and the Kansas City Chiefs were reportedly one of the other teams attempting to acquire him before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET trade deadline.
