A Manchester City defender won’t feature for England in their Nations League fixtures

As it stands currently John Stones has missed Manchester City’s past two games. The defender has missed his team’s past two games against Bournemouth and Sporting CP. Pep Guardiola has previously revealed that Stones is sidelined with a foot injury. In a blow for Manchester City, it does appear that Stones may be unavailable for this weekend’s clash with Brighton.

Lee Carsley named his England squad yesterday for his team’s upcoming Nations League fixtures against Greece and the Republic of Ireland. Stones’ absence from the England squad could suggest that Stones will be unavailable for City’s upcoming Premier League fixture.

It would appear that John Stones is set to miss his third consecutive game this weekend. With Stones not selected by England it does give the impression that he hasn’t yet recovered from his foot injury. A further update on the condition of John Stones is expected when Pep Guardiola faces the media later today. The Manchester City will speak to the media in his pre-game press conference ahead of his team’s Premier League clash with Brighton.

One positive for Manchester City is that John Stones will be able to rest over the international break. Before he went down with a foot injury the England international had looked to be returning to his best. Given John Stones’ injury history the opportunity to rest is the best thing for the defender.
