‘A massive problem’: Ruben Amorim drops major hint on team selection for Wolves game

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has dropped a major selection hint ahead of the Premier League clash at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day.

The Red Devils have had a disappointing campaign, and the club recently suffered their seventh defeat of the top-flight season against Bournemouth.

Amorim made six changes to the starting XI to face the Cherries on Sunday. The decision backfired with United suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat at home.

Despite this, the Portuguese has hinted that he will continue rotating his players so that there are no injuries, which would be a massive problem in trying to win games.

He told Manutd.com: “We are trying to address everything. So, I have a clear idea of the responsibility I have here but I’m trying to manage this team to not have injuries.

“If we have injuries, it’s a massive problem in trying to win games and manage all the players so I’m not rotating to see the future.

“I just want to win games and not have injuries. If we have injuries, it’s a big problem.”

Amorim should avoid extensive rotation

The 39-year-old has preferred to regularly rotate his line-up since his appointment last month.

The Portuguese wants to handle the workload of his players, but his tendency to make too many changes have hampered the performances on the pitch.

Against Bournemouth, we believe Amorim should not have started Tyrell Malacia and Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutch duo were among the worst performers.

The manager also made a tactical error by substituting Manuel Ugarte in the 54th minute.

The Uruguayan is the best defensive midfielder in the squad. His early substitution meant there was no control in the centre of the park as United were chasing the game.

Amorim should avoid making more than three changes per outing unless there are injuries.

The regular rotation does not help with the fixtures coming thick and fast. Amorim has to stick with the same XI in the coming games to improve the chemistry in his 3-4-2-1 set-up.
