AC Milan coach Paulo Fonseca feels that his team pushed Inter Milan harder than just about any other opposition in the derby.
The Rossoneri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, following this evening’s match.
Fonseca certainly made a statement about his future as Milan coach this evening.
The Rossoneri got their second win of the season. And they did so in just about the biggest fixture that they could have.
Milan beat Inter for the first time in seven derby matches against their city rivals. They had lost the previous six.
And it’s not just Milan who Inter have beaten in recent years.
The Nerazzurri have been the outstanding team in Serie A since the start of last season.
But Milan made a mockery of that notion with their performance.
Fonseca put out a team that was able to disrupt Inter’s style of play. Milan prevented Inter from playing at their best in possession, and created dangerous chances with incisive forward moves when they won the ball.
AC Milan Coach Fonseca: “Can’t Recall A Team Causing So Many Problems For Inter”
Milan coach Fonseca said that “It was an important match.”
“Firstly because it was a derby, and Milan hadn’t won one in a while.”
“But also because the moment of form we’ve been in,” he said.
“Today we played with courage,” Fonseca declared. “We deserved to win.”
The Rossoneri coach mused that “I don’t remember a team causing as many problems for Inter as we did today.”
Meanwhile, of the formation that Milan played, Fonseca insisted that “We didn’t change.”
“We played with the same structure, but did things a bit differently.”
“I changed the players up,” the Milan coach said. “But Morata played the same role as Reijnders did against Liverpool.”
