Alzarri Joseph returns for Bangladesh Tests; Jason Holder misses out

Date:

Despite the pacer’s return, Joshua da Silva will continue as West Indies’ vice-captain

West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph returns for the two-Test series against Bangladesh at home. He was rested for the series against South Africa to manage his workload. However, Joshua da Silva will continue to serve as the team’s vice-captain despite the pacer’s return.

Off-spinner Kevin Sinclair returns after recovering from an injury, but all-rounder Jason Holder will miss the series as he continues his shoulder rehabilitation. Moreover, pacer Anderson Philipp could be in line to make his Test return for the first time since 2022.

Before he missed the series against the Proteas, Joseph was Kraigg Brathwaite’s deputy in the longest format, but West Indies have decided to stick with da Silva for this series as well.

The wicketkeeper-batter registered scores of 1, 2*, 4 and 27 in the four innings against South Africa, as the visitors won the closely-fought two-match series 1-0.

Among other notable absentees are Gudakesh Motie, who picked up just three wickets against South Africa, but along with Joseph, he too is currently part of the T20 International (T20I) series against England.

The two Tests will begin on November 22 in Antigua before the action moves to Jamaica for the second game on November 30.

Ahead of the series, Barathwaite will lead a 13-member CWI Select XI in a warm-up game against Bangladesh on November 17 and 18 at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.
