Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is not great to be around after a defeat, especially one that will throw up the tired old narratives.

The 59-year-old got frustrated at a question about his open style of football, stating that some people don’t understand what he is trying to do and this match was a “bridge too far” for his tired team.

Amid that, there is a curious narrative around the supporters, who sang the Australian manager’s name while they were losing 5-2.

Any anger at the club’s plight, while they sit 10th in the table, is increasingly focused on club chairman Daniel Levy and the ownership as a whole.

Before kick-off, there was a ‘Levy out’ protest attended by several hundred fans with banners and black balloons also handed out and displayed in the 24th minute to mark 24 years of the ownership.

It was only a minority of fans involved but the ‘I don’t care about Levy, he doesn’t care about me’ chants, which also celebrates star player Dejan Kulusevski, is widespread.

When asked why they are protesting, outgoing Tottenham Supporters’ Trust chairman Martin Buhagiar told BBC Sport: “I think we are at the point where a lot of Spurs fans have had enough – football is just not being prioritised.

“When I first came here, we had Hoddle, Ardiles, Gascoigne, Lineker, Klinsmann but the last three transfer windows have been shambolic.

“We are the only club in the league with three centre-backs, the depth isn’t good enough. I have said a few times that our starting XI is top four or five [standard], but the squad is not top 10 [standard].

“I don’t blame the players, they have taken their eye off the ball with football. We feel like we are taking a step back. Do we care about NFL games and concerts more than football?”

Tottenham ended up losing 6-3 to league leader Liverpool and Postecoglou’s side have now conceded 13 goals in their last three home games.
