Angry Sunil Gavaskar slams Team India on live TV after BGT 2024-25 loss: ‘We don’t know cricket, we’re nothing’ | Mint

Sunil Gavaskar lashed out at the Indian cricket team on live television after India’s embarrassing loss against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) on Sunday. Starting on a high after winning the Perth Test, India lost three out of their remaining four games to let go away the title after 10 years.

Not only India lost the Test series but it also cost India a place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final which would have been their third consecutive time had they qualified for the Lord’s showdown.

Following the fifth Test match in Sydney, Gavaskar was asked should the Indian team prepare better by playing pink ball matches and conditions like Australia before a tour Down Under?

Reacting to this, Gavaskar couldn’t control himself. “Who are we? We don’t know cricket. We just speak just for the sake of TV and get money, don’t listen to us, we’re nothing. Listen from one ear, remove from another,” said the Indian legend on Star Sports while analysing post match.

Sunil Gavaskar lashes on Indian coaching staff

The 65-year-old also questioned the coaching staff’s role which came under Gautam Gambhir. Baring fielding coach T Dilip, all of India’s support staff got changed when Gambhir became the head coach. While South African Morne Morkel is the bowling coach, Abhishek Nayar is currently the batting coach while Dutch Ryan ten Doeschate is the assistant coach.

“What is your coaching staff doing? Like the way we were bowled out for 46 and the kind of batting Indian batters have showed (against New Zealand and Australia), question should arise what did you do? Where is the improvement?” asked Gavaskar.

“In this programme you might ask if these players should continue in the future? I am asking, shall we continue with this coaching staff? We have few month’s time till the England tour. How will you improve in the future? Just playing throwdowns won’t help,” he added.
