Arsenal boost as striker could leave his club next year, Arteta sees his qualities as so specifically suited to Gunners – report

Arsenal have been handed a transfer boost in their search for an out-and-out striker as the Daily Mail are reporting that the camp of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak will seek a move if they do not qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season.

The Sweden international hitman is unwilling to sign a contract extension because of his ambition to play in the elite European competition, and both parties are not in a rush to hold talks anytime soon given that his current deal does not expire until 2028.

It could be good news for Arsenal, and the Daily Mail claims they would likely be in a position to commit a British record sum on a player like Isak next summer.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta reportedly sees the qualities of the Newcastle star as so specifically suited to what he wants at Arsenal, and a move for him could be on the cards at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old was the top target for the North Londoners during the summer transfer window as far as signing a number 9 was concerned, but they were unwilling to get into a saga that could have gone on for the entire window after the Toons firmly made it known they would not be considering any offers for Isak.

Their stand could change next summer if they miss out on a Champions League spot, and the news could put Arsenal on red alert.

The Gunners will not be the only club monitoring the development, and going after a number 9 could be a top priority next summer, especially if they fail to win the Premier League title this term.

Kai Havertz has been in fine form so far this term, with four goals and an assist to his name in eight Premier League games, but Arsenal could do with an out-and-out striker going forward.

Isak has 36 goals in 74 games for Newcastle and will do better playing for a club like Arsenal, but it would take top dollar to land him and whether the Gunners will be willing to break the bank for him remains to be seen.
