Arsenal Pursuing Chelsea and PSG Summer Target in January Would Be Surprise Move, Expert Says

Date:

Don’t expect Arsenal to go for Victor Osimhen this upcoming January transfer window despite the Gunners missing that No. 9 that can push them over the top. Moreover, even the Nigerian player’s more economical contract makes triggering his release clause less of a financial burden.

This past summer transfer window, Paris Saint-Germain wasn’t willing to pay a hefty fee for Osimhen, which ruled them out of the race. Chelsea attempted a move for the striker in the final hours, but no move happened.

Despite only just arriving on loan at Galatasaray S.K. with no option to buy, the Nigerian international could still be on the move in a few months.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that Osimhen is set to return to Napoli next summer, with the club having an option to extend his contract until 2027.

If Napoli decides to trigger this extension starting in 2025, his release clause will drop to €75 million, potentially making him available to interested clubs at a lower fee.

Even though the player can be had at an economical price, Arsenal expert Charlie Watts rules out the Gunners being in this race. In his latest Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside, he noted his skepticism of the North London side being involved in the Osimhen saga again.

“As I’ve said before, I’ve never really been told about any Arsenal interest in Osimhen since the summer of 2022, when they ended up moving for Gabriel Jesus instead,” Watts said.

“So I would be surprised if they go for him in January. I think, if and when they do go for another striker, it might be a slightly different profile to the Nigeria international. And anyway, right now they are very happy with what Kai Havertz is offering them as the central striker.”
