AS Monaco are known for their capacity to propel their academy products into the first-team set-up. In recent years, Eliesse Ben Seghir, Maghnes Akliouche, and Soungoutou Magassa have all made that important step, establishing themselves as first-team regulars.
However, one player who hasn’t made that step, despite wearing the armband for the Principality Club’s Groupe Élite, is Mayssam Benama (19). The versatile and combative central midfielder is a regular for Monaco’s academy, featuring in all five of the UEFA Youth League games this season, helping his side beat the likes of Barcelona and Benfica.
However, he is yet to register a single of minute of professional football for his formative club. According to Nice Matin journalist Christopher Roux, the France youth international is now considering his future with Les Monégasques. Benama is not in Adi Hütter’s plans currently and he would like to secure more first-team playing opportunities, meaning that he is looking for a move away from the Stade Louis II.
A departure in January is envisaged with an extension to his contract, which runs until 2026, not in the works and not on the agenda.
