AS Monaco suffered their first loss in six months when they travelled to the Allianz Riviera on Sunday. The Principality club lost 2-1 against local rivals OGC Nice in what was also their first defeat of the current campaign in all competitions.
Les Monégasques have been on a hot streak of form this season, alluding to a potential title challenge, whilst they have also been strong in the UEFA Champions League, winning twice and drawing once. That leaves them in the top three in the revamped ‘League Phase’ of the European competition.
However, their unbeaten streak in Ligue 1 is now over. Gaëtan Laborde’s second-half goal proved the difference after Vanderson’s harsh red card at 1-1 changed the momentum in what was a heated encounter. It means that Manchester City are now the only remaining unbeaten side in Europe’s top five leagues in all competitions this season.Monaco also fall three points behind table-topping Paris Saint-Germain, who beat Olympique de Marseille in Sunday night’s Le Classique.
