Barcelona ace manages to prove Xavi wrong about him – Report

Robert Lewandowski has been key for this FC Barcelona team that has started the 2024-25 season in flying colors under the guidance of the German manager Hansi Flick.

He has already scored seven goals in his seven league matches up to now, which is not as good as his nine goals in the first seven matches of his first season at Barcelona. However, the goals he has scored this season have benefitted the Catalan team more in terms of points won, than they did two years ago.

As Diario AS has noted, with these performances, the veteran Pole has given a very powerful response to the lack of confidence shown in him by the former Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernandez.

Lewandowski was hurt as Xavi had reportedly asked Laporta to get rid of the 36-year-old striker, as he believed he was already past his prime and was not good enough for a side as big as FC Barcelona.

However, with Hansi Flick’s appointment, everything fell into place for Lewandowski as the German was one of the coaches who had gotten the best out of him at Bayern Munich.

On the other hand, the striker himself had put in the work to maintain his position at Barcelona. When most of his teammates were still on holiday after the UEFA EURO 2024, he had already started working at home and then asked Mallorca-based side Cade Paguera to allow him to train at their facilities.

His explosive start to the season has already surprised everyone at the Blaugrana club. He has not only contributed with his goals, but has also been integral as Barcelona have taken a different tactical approach. Although he is not a captain, but is already one of the leaders of the dressing room.
