For the longest time, it was almost taken for granted that Barcelona would opt for a pacifist approach in the upcoming January transfer window.
In light of the club’s economic situation, they were not expected to make any moves in the market and solely focus on renewals and registrations.
However, the tables may turn soon, as Barcelona are on the verge of activating an economic lever that could bring in an inflow of more than €100 million.
This will not only allow Barcelona to register their summer signings but also help them return to the 1:1 rule.
January signing could be a possibility
In the wake of Barcelona’s potential new lever, Diario SPORT reports that there is now a remote possibility the club could sign a player on loan in January.
Barcelona are still not looking to pen any permanent deals in January, but they could consider a loan move, with Hansi Flick specifically asking for reinforcements in the midfield unit.
Although Marc Casado has become an undisputed first-team regular in the holding role, Flick believes there is no one else to replace the Spaniard.
Keeping that in mind, the German tactician wants a little more depth in the holding midfield role and that is where the January transfer window could come into play.
That being said, finding a viable holding midfielder willing to join Barcelona in January on a loan deal could be a difficult ask.
A lot will rest on the shoulders of Deco, who will be tasked with finding the right option for Barcelona in the market.
