Barcelona are going through an important phase right now, one which, if executed properly, could alleviate the club’s long battle with economic downturn.
Indeed, Barcelona are going to receive two key financial boosts next summer – one from the recently-announced Nike deal and the other from the grand opening of Camp Nou.
Although Barcelona are expected to move to Camp Nou later this season, the club will start reaping the economic rewards from next summer onwards.
Joan Laporta wants a big signing
Keeping that in mind, Toni Juanmarti suggests Joan Laporta is already dreaming of a ‘top signing’, in the wake of the Spotify Camp Nou unveiling.
One would imagine the club could prioritise the signing of a new forward, who can replace Robert Lewandowski in the years to come.
Barça may also look to bring in a new midfielder, especially if Frenkie de Jong ends up leaving the club next summer. Signing a new right-back cannot be ruled out either, given the lack of options in the position.
Who could Barcelona go for?
Should Barcelona look to splurge big on an individual next summer, there are no shortage of options in the market.
In their bid to replace Lewandowski, Barça may weigh up a move for Viktor Gyokeres, who has emerged as a target for the club recently.
Other ‘big options’ for Barcelona could include the likes of Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich or Florian Wirtz, as they have been performing well in the Bundesliga for years now.
Laporta’s idea is to sign someone, who can help Barcelona make a statement to the rest of Europe, especially after years of trying to find cost-effective options in the market.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the Barcelona president approaches this matter. Counsel from Hansi Flick could be equally important, too.
