Barcelona teenage sensation’s hot streak ends with blank game against Serbia

Date:

In the opening match of the UEFA Nations League between Spain and Serbia, Lamine Yamal’s remarkable streak came to an end.

It must be noted that the Barcelona forward had previously been involved in scoring or assisting in eight consecutive games, but he did not contribute to the scoreline in this match.

Despite being diagnosed with a knock, Spain’s coach Luis de la Fuente chose to start Yamal and kept him on the field for the entire 90 minutes. The match ended in a 0-0 draw, marking the end of Yamal’s impressive run of contributions.

Lamine Yamal’s goal contribution

Yamal’s streak of involvement in front of goal had been outstanding. He had been directly involved in eight consecutive official matches, with two goals and seven assists.

His impressive run began during the round of 16 in the Euros, where he assisted Fabian Ruiz against Georgia.

He then provided another assist for Dani Olmo against Germany in the quarter-finals and scored a crucial goal against France in the semi-finals. The youngster was also pivotal in the final, assisting Nico Williams against England.

In La Liga, Barcelona’s position as the leaders with a perfect record of four wins out of four is significantly due to Yamal’s contributions. He has been directly involved in all 12 points earned by the Catalan club.

His contributions include an assist to Robert Lewandowski against Valencia to level the score, a goal against Athletic to start the scoring, another assist for Olmo against Rayo Vallecano to secure the win, and two more assists against Valladolid—one for Lewandowski and another for Raphinha.

Yamal, as a result of this burst, currently leads La Liga in assists with four. Combined with his goal, he ranks second for the most direct goal contributions, tied with Lewandowski and former Barça player Oscar Mingueza, and just behind Raphinha.
