Barcelona top summer target’s agents finally break silence over transfer rumours

Nico Williams was one of the most in-demand players during the summer transfer window, with top clubs including FC Barcelona gunning for his signing from Athletic Club.

Other clubs from outside Spain were also keen on signing the 22-year-old speedster, but Barcelona held the strongest interest.

For some time, it even appeared like the move would go through but in the end, Nico opted to continue at Athletic Club, with Barça’s Financial Fair Play situation hampering the operation.

Nico Williams’ agents speak up

Now, speaking in an interview with AS, Nico Williams’ agents, Felix Tainta and Juan Oyaga, opened up on all the interest in the winger in the summer and explained his decision to continue at Athletic Club.

“‘The lad has had an incredible year and he has proved it, for me, by being the best player of the European Championship. Logically we’ve had a lot of movement, a lot of trips and we’re happy,” they said.

Felix Tainta further added: “The boy has decided to continue, he wanted to continue for another year to work. He has decided he wants to continue and there has been no domino effect.”

Barcelona plan to return in 2025

While Barcelona may have failed in their pursuit of Nico this past summer, the Blaugrana have not forgotten about him at all.

In fact, reports suggest that Joan Laporta & co. intend to go after the Spanish international’s signing again in 2025, with the club expected to be in a much better position Fair Play-wise then.
