Paris Saint-Germain are currently facing uncertainty regarding their goalkeeping situation, particularly with Gianluigi Donnarumma’s future up in the air. Should the club decide to part ways with the 25-year-old, they will need to search for a replacement in the transfer market.
Although Donnarumma is under contract until 2026, his performances have been inconsistent, with costly mistakes raising concerns over time. It seems PSG may be losing patience and could be considering long-term alternatives.
A goalkeeper move in January seems unlikely, but the summer transfer window could see the club pursue a more reliable option to strengthen the position.
A recent report from PSG Inside Actus reveals that the club is keeping an eye on five potential candidates, including Brighton & Hove Albion’s standout Bart Verbruggen.
Bayern Munich’s plan to secure Bart Verbruggen
Journalist Christian Falk spoke with CaughtOffside over Bayern Munich’s pursuit of a long-term successor for Manuel Neuer. Verbruggen appears to be the No. 1 target with the German side already having a potential plan for the Dutchman.
“Bayern want to arrange a loan during the summer transfer window in order to ensure he’s getting first-team minutes,” Falk told the English media outlet.
“With that in mind, they’ll need a new backup ‘keeper for Neuer. Which is why they’ve had a look at Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen who’s very highly rated on the shortlist.”
“Now Bayern have decided they need a good goalkeeper behind Neuer because of his injury. Perhaps they need one who can also become a No.1.
“Manuel Neuer will sign a new contract until 2026 (but this isn’t official yet), so they want a goalkeeper on a good level if he has to play, as Neuer is getting older. Don’t think of it as a No.2 goalkeeper but a No.1(a).”
Under contract with Brighton until 2028, Verbruggen has featured in 14 matches across all competitions this season, keeping three clean sheets and conceding 21 goals. Transfermarkt values him at €22 million.
