“Be loyal, loyal to Indian cricket”: Sunil Gavaskar urges Nitish Kumar Reddy

Date:

Former India player Sunil Gavaskar was not in favour of Nitish Kumar Reddy playing in the first Test against Australia in Perth. However, the young all-rounder has won over his most famous critics in just two games. Gavaskar has been praising the player ever since he scored 41 runs in the first innings of the series opener.

According to Gavaskar, although Virat Kohli and Yashasvi played the most important knocks in India’s win. Reddy’s efforts were the most impressive.

In his debut game, he amassed an unbeaten 38 in the second essay and also took one wicket in the game. In the ongoing pink-ball game, he scored 42, and his contribution took the team’s total to 180. Nitish dismissed dangerous Marnus Labuschagne in Australia’s first innings, with the latter scoring 64.

He was unbeaten on 15 in the visiting team’s second essay, with a score being at 128/5. India still trails by 29 runs and need a big contribution from the new player. Gavaskar hailed the player after the stumps on Day 2.

“He has been very impressive; there is no question about that. The way he has adapted to the situation and the way he is batting shows he has a good cricketing head on his shoulders.

“He got his Test cap from his hero and idol, Virat Kohli. He needs to keep working hard, not take anything lightly, and remember always, always, that due to the prayers of his parents and Indian cricket, all good things will happen to him. And that is the reason that he has got to be loyal, loyal to Indian cricket,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Sports Today.
