Bears gift Vikings 10 points with failed fourth down, fumble

Date:

It is the season of giving, and the Bears have done their part.

Chicago has gifted the Vikings a 10-0 lead in the first quarter of Monday Night Football.

The Bears took the opening kickoff, and facing a fourth-and-1 at their own 39, they chose to go for it. D’Andre Swift, who was questionable to play with a groin injury, was stopped for no gain by Jonathan Greenard and Jerry Tillery.

The Vikings gained only 5 yards on their three offensive plays and settled for a 52-yard Will Reichard field goal and a 3-0 lead.

The Bears put together a nice drive on their second possession with three first downs, seven plays and 41 yards before Greenard came from the blind side and walloped Caleb Williams. Williams lost the ball, and Blake Cashman had a scoop-and-almost score, going 17 yards to the Chicago 39 before Travis Homer saved the touchdown.

It was Greenard’s 11th sack of the season.

Five plays later, Justin Jefferson caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Sam Darnold. The Vikings receiver gave a shout-out to Hall of Fame receiver Randy Moss after the score.

The Vikings lead 10-0 with 5:04 left in the first quarter, a hole the Bears could be hard pressed to dig out of.
