Blockbuster Manchester City contract update emerges – Player could become Premier League’s highest-paid player

Manchester City are moving closer towards the contract extension of Erling Haaland at the Etihad Stadium as the Norwegian begins his latest campaign in goalscoring style.

The 24-year-old striker is currently enduring a hot streak of form in his latest campaign for Manchester City, having already broken a whole host of records during his opening two seasons with the reigning Premier League champions.

Having won Premier League titles in both of his seasons working under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium, Erling Haaland has also played a significant role in additional silverware including a first-ever UEFA Champions League crown.

The latest season has started with seven goals in Erling Haaland’s opening three Premier League matches, including back-to-back hat-tricks against Ipswich Town and West Ham United, on top of his goal on the opening weekend against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

But Manchester City are certainly not content with their own financial rewards and incentives being handed to Haaland for his ongoing work in a sky blue shirt, with a new report pointing towards a potential breakthrough in conversations over a new contract.

According to the information of Marca’s Jose Felix Diaz, Erling Haaland and Manchester City are currently negotiating a new deal at the Etihad Stadium, and the signing agreement is now ‘not far away’.

It is further explained that the player’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta and directors at City have had several meetings and everything indicates that the Norway international could renew and improve his current commitment to the club.

In the event that a new contract agreement is closed, the report states that Haaland would become the highest paid player in Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City squad – a position currently held by Kevin De Bruyne.

Manchester City will have to look for more creative ways of supporting Erling Haaland throughout this season during times of any potential injury or a need for rest away from competitive action for the former Borussia Dortmund man.

Haaland’s consistent success in the leading striking role forced Julian Alvarez into a rethink of his own position at the Etihad Stadium, with the Argentine ultimately reaching a decision of moving away from Manchester City for Atletico Madrid.

Whilst the four-in-a-row Premier League champions took home an initial €75 million transfer fee from negotiations with the Spanish club, a decision was made not to recruit a new back-up striker, despite admirations in the likes of Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi.
