Borussia Dortmund willing to let several key players leave in the summer

Sport Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund are said to be happy to let several key players leave next summer, in what looks like a complete squad refresh.

Donyell Malen:

The Dutch winger pushed for a move in the summer, but he was only able to attract interest from clubs that compete for places in the Europa League. Malen has thus fired his previous agent as they were unable to find him a new club, he will now look to repeat the process with another agent.

Malen’s form also means that Dortmund will likely get less than the €30m for him that they spent in 2021.

Emre Can:

The club captain. Although Can is popular in the Dortmund dressing room, some do not see him as a true leader. The midfielder was kept as the captain when Nuri Sahin was hired but there was not full conviction behind Can as captain. It is suggested that he be kept as the club captain as it would cause the least unrest at the club.

The rest:

The doubts surrounding Julian Brandt are if he has the capabilities to fill the void in the hierarchy at the club. If Dortmund receive a good enough offer for him in the summer, they will let him leave.

Niklas Süle and Marcel Sabitzer could also leave. It is said the pair do not have what it takes to be leaders at the club. Süle is unhappy with his role in the team as he was promised to become a starter but is now injured. While Sabitzer has openly been critical of head coach Sahin about his starting position.
